RKP projects 2024

In 2023, numerous artists and cultural practitioners from the region once again applied for funding from the RKP - Regional Culture Programme NRW with exciting concepts from the visual arts, film, literature, music, socioculture and theatre. The Münsterland Cultural Council met in autumn 2023 and recommended 22 project applications for funding. Below you will find an overview of the selected art and cultural projects that will be realised in Münsterland in 2024 as part of the RKP. In addition to the 22 new formats, we present two other projects that were already recommended in 2022 and will be implemented or continued this year.

Bach/Cantatas/Exile/Migration

Bach, himself a migrant, does not directly address the subject of flight in his cantatas, but he does take up related themes. Krumper Quaynoo and DJ Spoonman use Bach's music to shed light on flight and exile today, linking Bach and the DJ's sound collages with ritual acts and sacrifices in modern society. It shows the relevance of Bach's works in the present and illustrates how art can build bridges between past and present.

The Baroness

"Die Baronesse" (AT) is a fictional short film (approx. 15 minutes) in the genre of the horror tale with a black humour touch. The short film takes a critical look at male chauvinism and toxic masculinity.
The story is based on an old Münsterland fairy tale, according to which the castle in Rhede is haunted by a ghost in the form of a beautiful young woman - "the white lady".

Disposable

The fictional short film "Disposable" is being shot this summer in Münster and the surrounding area. It is about the homeless Marco and his life on the streets - how he wanders through the night, scrounges for money and pursues his addictions. In the end, he is brutally beaten to death by a group of youths for no reason.
With this film, the Butchers & Duchess film team would like to travel through the Münsterland region and invite local politicians and citizens to take a closer look at the issue of homelessness in Münsterland and discuss it openly with a series of film screenings.

Changing signs - 50 years of regional reform in Münsterland

On 1 January 1975, a reform of the century comes into force in Münsterland. Numerous local authority and district boundaries are shifted, place-name signs are replaced and areas of life change from one day to the next. The territorial reform digs deep into the region's cultural identity. To mark its 50th anniversary, the Kulturbüro Münsterland is looking for artistic projects from various disciplines that deal with the effects of the reorganisation. The projects will be prepared in 2024 and realised in early 2025. The highlight and conclusion will be the joint presentation week from 7-11 May 2025.

The project does outreach, artistic youth work in cooperation with youth centres in Münsterland. It travels to locations in the region with its own stage lorry. Based on the principle of "by those affected for those affected" by intersectional discrimination such as sexism, racism, ableism and homophobia, the project is aimed in particular at young BIPoC-FINTA*. Impulse workshops are offered in the disciplines of rap, dance and graffiti with the aim of creating the evening show on the lorry stage.

Niches and gaps in the cultural offering are discovered and utilised artistically. New and unusual venues are explored and opened up.
