Cargobull Telematics GmbH from Münster is today one of the largest providers of trailer telematics services and "digital services" based on them. The solutions of the wholly-owned subsidiary of Schmitz Cargobull AG increase transparency in the fleet, boost efficiency in fleet management and drive forward the digitalisation of processes in the logistics and transport industry.

Challenge: Protecting real-time data

Real-time data, such as location or cold chain data, plays a major role in the logistics industry. When a transport company sends a truck with freight on the road, the ordering parties and the customers increasingly demand the exchange of telematics data - for example, the vehicle's GPS data, date, driving time, etc. The customers need this data to optimise their processes and to be able to prepare for receiving the goods on site. So-called "real-time visibility platforms" are used to provide the data, into which the real-time data of the vehicle flow and are retrieved by the ordering parties and the customers. But: For this, the freight forwarder must not only connect its own truck fleets, but also the fleets of its subcontractors. In this way, the platforms receive data on the entire network of the freight forwarder. This allows almost uncontrolled access to large amounts of data - locations, driving times, technical data of the trailers or tour data. Therefore, solutions are needed that only share order-related telematics data.

This is precisely where Schmitz Cargobull comes in: With the TrailerConnect® Data Management Center as a component of its TrailerConnect® trailer telematics, the trailer manufacturer creates automated and seamless data transparency without the transport companies having to pass on more data than necessary and program the corresponding interfaces themselves. The transport companies have complete data control. The TrailerConnect® Data Management Center enables individual configuration of the transport data for each tour. The haulier manages the data release himself and can selectively share data with third parties who want or demand access to telematics data. With this solution, all participants along the supply chain are networked and a simple and controlled exchange of information is ensured.

Success: secure data exchange

With the TrailerConnect® Data Management Center, Cargobull Telematics GmbH has succeeded in creating a platform that enables automated, simple and secure data exchange. With the TrailerConnect® Data Management Center, the transport company can transmit data selectively and in compliance with data protection regulations with third parties, such as telematics web portals, transport management systems (TMS) or even real-time visibility platforms (RTV). The forwarder has a complete overview of his entire fleet and has a central, digital place to manage all his data transfers. The data belongs to the forwarder, he retains control. The TrailerConnect® Data Management Center allows him to control the exchange of data with connected platforms and tools and only pass on as much information as necessary.
