Due to the increasing flexibility in automation, mobile robot systems are being used in more and more areas. This development places high demands on the navigation of the robot systems. In part, conventional devices are supplemented with autonomous functions and thus become robots - for example harvesters, forklift trucks or personal lifts for stationary care. On the other hand, completely new robotic systems are being designed and successfully launched on the market. These include cleaning robots and robots that perform delivery services indoors or outdoors.
Autonomous and safe navigation
The basis for the use of mobile service robots in everyday environments is their ability to navigate autonomously and safely - especially among humans. For the execution of complex assistance tasks, the robot's ability for collision-free autonomous (mobile) manipulation also plays an increasingly important role.
