Robotics and image processing

The combination of the fields of expertise robotics and image processing harbours enormous savings potential. Image processing, for example, enables robots to recognise the position of workpieces lying loose in the room and initiate further processing. This saves preparation and set-up times, which increases the focus on value-added activities. In addition, the use of sensors for image processing promotes the internal learning process of a robot with artificial intelligence. Thus, this learning robot can distinguish workpieces of different categories or classify them based on certain features.

Prerequisites for use

Compatibility of vision systems and robot controllers

For trouble-free and safe communication of the robots with the image processing system, care must be taken when selecting the systems to ensure that they harmonise with each other.

Training of employees

The establishment of collaboration between robots and image recognition holds great potential. However, this can only be exploited if the employees concerned are sensitised to the new technologies and trained appropriately.
