Advanced ceramics

Advanced ceramics

DIN V ENV 12212 defines a high-performance ceramic as a "highly developed, high-performance ceramic material that is predominantly non-metallic and inorganic and has certain functional properties". They can withstand enormous loads and extreme temperatures, can be used under electric current and in the human body.

Advanced ceramics are used in the following areas: environmental (e.g. rolling bearings for wind turbines, fuel cell components), domestic (e.g. filters for water treatment, valves and sliding rings in dishwashers), office (e.g. heat sinks for LED lighting systems, wafer plates for the production of semiconductors), medical (e.g. knee and hip prosthesis elements) and automotive (e.g. casting cores for piston casting).

Requirements for use

Composition

  • Depending on the application, a certain composition of the materials is required. At this point, know-how is required.
