Ceramic fibre composites

Ceramic fibre composites

Ceramic fibre composites usually consist of a normal ceramic matrix reinforced by ceramic fibres. The composite ceramics are abbreviated in the form "fibre type/matrix type".

Currently industrially available fibre-reinforced ceramics are C/C, C/SiC, SiC/SiC, Al2O3/Al2O3. Compared to conventional ceramics, they have a higher elongation at break, a higher crack resistance, an extreme thermal shock resistance, a better dynamic load capacity and anisotropic properties. Applications for these materials include turbine combustion chambers, brake discs for highly stressed disc brakes, components for plain bearings with high corrosion and wear loads.

Requirements for use

Suitable manufacturer

  • A suitable manufacturer in Europe must be identified for the component production.
