Concrete
Concrete is a building material that is often used in combination with reinforcement (e.g. steel) as a composite material. One of the challenges for the future will be to adapt the high CO2 emissions generated in concrete production to climate protection targets.
The components cement, water, aggregate, concrete additives and concrete admixtures are mixed according to the desired skill class, exposed environmental conditions of the component, workability and architectural aspects.
Types of concrete according to property and texture are e.g. fibre and textile concrete, lightweight concrete, eco-concrete, paper concrete, recycled concrete, reinforced concrete and aerated concrete. Normal concrete is used, among other things, for the production of cleanliness layers, backfilling or in gardening and landscaping. High-performance concrete, on the other hand, is used in house, skeleton and traffic construction.
Ready-mixed concrete components as well as fresh concrete are produced or mixed in concrete plants on the basis of concrete recipes and then transported. Both fresh and hardened concrete can be recycled. Fresh concrete residues are washed with water. The rock residues and the residual water are reused in concrete production. Hardened concrete, which is produced during concrete demolition, is reduced to concrete chippings, which are used in the production of recycled concrete, among other things.
