Powder coatings

Powder coatings

Powder coatings consist of organic, often thermosetting coating powder. They consist of binders, additives, pigments and fillers. However, there is no solvent, as powder coatings are produced by means of extrusion and grinding. Powder coating protects the surface of sheet metal parts, e.g. steel, as well as giving them a decorative finish.

Before the actual process, the workpieces are first cleaned and pre-treated before they are fed into an application plant. Here, the powder is applied to the workpieces by spray guns and cross-linked at temperatures of up to 250° C to form an impact- and scratch-resistant surface. Layer thickness, optical and mechanical properties are controlled.
