In laminated safety glass, two flat glass panes are joined with a film, usually made of polyvinyl butyral. Other interlayer materials are ethylene vinyl acetate, polyacrylate, polymethyl methacrylate and polyurethane. Thus, in case of glass breakage, the fragments stick to the film and injuries are reduced.
A distinction is made between curved laminated safety glass, prelaminated production by a roller/roll process and laminated production by the vacuum process. Laminated safety glass is used, among other things, for overhead glazing and in facades. It offers a wide range of functions such as sound insulation, thermal insulation, sun protection and increased security through burglary protection.
