With thermal lamination, paper or cardboard is bonded to film with heat or pressure. The adhesive is melted by heat and the film is bonded to the paper by pressure. Laminating films are made of conventional plastics, such as polyester or polypropylene. In addition, there are already the first environmentally friendly laminating films on the market that are made from the renewable resource wood pulp. The finishing of paper enables printed products to have surface protection and prevents, among other things, white breakage (the breaking of ink on paper).
