Welcome to Legden!

Legden is located in the western Münsterland region between Ahaus and Coesfeld. From here, you don't have far to go to the Netherlands; for example, the popular shopping city of Enschede is only about 35 minutes away by car. Legden is also very well connected in other respects: Münster and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) can be reached in about 50 minutes, Osnabrück in just over an hour. The district town of Borken is half an hour's drive away. Another plus for commuters: Legden railway station is on the Dortmund-Enschede regional train line.
You can reach the North Sea coast in just over two hours via the A31 motorway, to which Legden has its own junction.

Tip: The Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

The municipality of Legden consists of the main town and the second district of Asbeck, which lies just under ten minutes north-east of the town centre. Around 1,300 of the total population of 7,300 live in Asbeck. Between and around the two villages are eight farming communities, which also belong to the municipality.

In the centre of Legden there are several shopping facilities and restaurants. Behind the listed church of St. Brigida is the dahlia garden, where around 160 varieties of the colourful flower species bloom.

You can buy everything you need for everyday life in Legden: in addition to various supermarkets, there are also fashion shops, a shoe shop, an optician and a decoration and gift shop in the town centre. An ice cream parlour and several restaurants are located between the shops. You can get everything you need for your bike or e-bike in various specialist bike shops in the neighbouring towns.
Tip for bargain hunters: The Designer Outlet Ochtrup is only 25 minutes away by car.

There are around seven daycare centres and kindergartens in Legden and Asbeck. Here you will also find information and contacts for childcare provided by day carers in the childcare.

The youngest pupils are taught at the two primary school sites in Legden and Asbeck. They can then go to the secondary school in Legden-Rosendahl to complete their secondary school leaving certificate. Grammar schools and other secondary schools are located in the neighbouring town of Ahaus and in nearby Coesfeld.
