The approximately 14,000 inhabitants of Lotte enjoy THE GOOD LIFE in a quiet town on the outskirts of Osnabrück. The municipality consists of four neighbourhoods of different sizes, all of which have a cohesive village character.
The municipality of Lotte is located in the district of Steinfurt, only 20 minutes by car west of the city centre of Osnabrück. It takes about 45 minutes to drive to Münster and Bielefeld, and about 25 minutes to Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO). The district town of Steinfurt is 45 minutes away, and further west you can reach the Netherlands, for example the popular city of Enschede, within an hour. Via the A1, which runs directly past Lotte, you can reach the North Sea coastin one and a half hours.
Commuters benefit not only from the good motorway connections: In the district of Halen there is also a small railway station where trains to Osnabrück and Bremen stop.
Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.
The municipality of Lotte comprises the four districts of Alt-Lotte, Büren, Halen and Wersen. A good 5000 of the total population of around 14,000 live in the southernmost village of Alt-Lotte, while Halen with around 1400 inhabitants lies in the very north of the municipality. The centrally located Wersen is home to just under 3,500 people, and to the east is the village of Büren with 4,500 inhabitants, which borders directly on Osnabrück.
Even though rental and purchase prices are following the general property trend overall, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland when it comes to building, buying or renting. Here you can find the average purchase and rental prices for a house or flat in rural Münsterland.
In Alt-Lotte, Wersen and Büren you have short distances in everyday life: All three villages have at least one supermarket, bakeries and restaurants. From Halen, you can reach the shopping facilities in Wersen in just a few minutes. In addition, there are various specialist shops in the community, for example furniture shops, toy shops and electrical shops. Bicycles, e-bikes and accessories are available from specialist retailers throughout Münsterland.
By the way, it's not only neighbouring Osnabrück that invites you to go shopping; the popular Designer Outlet Ochtrup is only 45 minutes away by car.
There are about eight day-care centres and kindergartens in Lotte for the youngest children. There is at least one childcare facility in every district.
There is a primary school in each of the districts of Lotte, Büren and Wersen. At the Lotte-Westerkappeln comprehensive school, pupils can obtain all qualifications up to the Abitur, whereby the upper secondary school is located at the Westerkappeln site.
Lotte is a classic commuter community: many people drive from here to work in the surrounding towns, especially Osnabrück. However, the two industrial estates to the north of Alt-Lotte and between Wersen and Büren are home not only to small and medium-sized businesses but also to some well-known companies. Among the largest are the toy retailer Vedes, the wholesaler Lekkerland, the haulage company Sostmeier, the automotive supplier FRIMO Group and the company Elster Kromschröder, which manufactures components for industrial furnaces, among other things.
