On the trail of great traders

Welcome to Mettingen!

In Mettingen, THE GOOD LIFE comes together in a historic town on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest with good transport links. The 12,000 inhabitants of the municipality live in the town centre and several rural hamlets.

On the border between Münsterland and Lower Saxony

Mettingen is located between Osnabrück and Rheine in the district of Steinfurt, on the border with Lower Saxony. Osnabrück and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) can be reached by car in half an hour, and Münster and the district town of Steinfurt are around 50 minutes away. You can be in the Netherlands almost as quickly, for example in the popular shopping city of Enschede. Via the nearby motorways you also have a direct connection to the North Sea coast and can be at the sea in a good hour and a half.

Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Living in Mettingen

Most of the approximately 12,000 inhabitants of Mettingen live in the main town, and the municipality also includes twelve rural hamlets.

The pretty town centre is characterised by a number of very different historical buildings. The village's landmark is the neo-Gothic St Agatha's Church of the Catholic community, not far away is the Protestant Church - the oldest building in Mettingen. There are also a number of historic half-timbered and sandstone buildings as well as many Tüöttenvillen - the magnificent houses of the Tödden, travelling merchants who used to deliver goods to neighbouring countries.

Even though rental and purchase prices are following the general property trend overall, there are still numerous niches to be discovered in Münsterland for building, buying or renting. Here you can find the average purchase and rental prices for a house or flat in rural Münsterland.

If you would like to build a house in Mettingen, you can find information on new building sites on the municipality's website and can register on a list of interested parties for building plots.
