Shopping in Münster

In Münster's city centre you can find everything you need - and much more. On Wednesdays or Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., for example, you can plunge right into the hustle and bustle of the always busy weekly market on Domplatz - where you can buy cheese, eggs, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, spices, flowers and much more, meet friends at the coffee stall or eat pea soup, potato pancakes and kibbelinge (breaded and deep-fried pollock).

In addition, the entire city centre is one big, connected pedestrian zone where you can shop extensively on at least four shopping streets: on Salzstraße, Prinzipalmarkt, Ludgeristraße with the Münster Arkaden shopping centre and, for some years now, at the Hanse-Carré on Stubengasse. Here you can either shop in fashion, shoe and sports shops, browse in bookshops, run errands in drugstores, supermarkets and department stores or stop off in cafés, bistros and bakeries. The offer is supplemented by electrical goods shops and toy shops as well as some long-established butchers and confectioners, modern organic markets and a few health food shops. In winter, the entire city centre is transformed into a romantic Christmas market.

If you are looking for small, owner-operated shops with a more alternative range of products, you will find them in the neighbouring districts a little away from the city centre - for example on Hammer Straße, Wolbecker Straße or Warendorfer Straße. Here you can shop for fair-trade clothes, buy in organic and unpackaged shops, visit small bistros and restaurants with international (trendy) cuisine or enjoy a particularly good cup of coffee, a bagel or a lovingly sandwich in one of the many alternative cafés.
