In Nordwalde you have THE GOOD LIFE with a wide range of leisure activities and good connections to the surrounding towns - by car and by train. The 9500 inhabitants live in the town centre and several rural districts.

A village community between Münster and Steinfurt

Nordwalde is about 25 minutes by car northwest of Münster in the district of Steinfurt. You can also reach Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) from here in about 25 minutes, and Osnabrück is about 50 minutes away. The district town of Steinfurt is only 20 minutes away by car. In the west, it's not far to our Dutch neighbours; the popular city of Enschede , for example, is only 45 minutes away. You can also travel there comfortably by train, from Nordwalde station there are direct connections to Münster and Gronau. The nearby motorways take you to the North Sea coast in just over two hours.

Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Living in Nordwalde

Nordwalde consists of the town centre, where most of the approximately 9500 inhabitants live, and five rural hamlets. In the village centre around the town hall and the churches, there are a few shops and restaurants, and children can play in the playground. The village centre is surrounded by residential areas, with the railway station and an industrial area to the far west.

Shopping in Nordwalde

In Nordwalde you can shop in various supermarkets , and on Saturdays there is also a small weekly market with fresh products from the region. In addition to restaurants and bakeries with cafés, the town centre also has clothing shops, a book and stationery shop, an optician and a handicrafts shop. As almost everywhere in the Münsterland region, specialist bicycle shops offer you lots of accessories and new bicycles or e-bikes. Tip for shopping enthusiasts: The Designer Outlet Ochtrup or the city of Münster with its diverse shopping opportunities are only 25 minutes away by car.

Childcare and schools in Nordwalde

There are around seven daycare centres and kindergartens in Nordwalde for the youngest residents, as well as child daycare. You can find free childcare places in the centres in the "STEP - Kreis Steinfurt Elternportal".

There are two primary schools in Nordwalde. Pupils can then complete all qualifications up to the Abitur at the comprehensive school.

Working in Nordwalde

Nordwalde as a business location is mainly characterised by small and medium-sized enterprises: In addition to the retail trade, there are a number of craft businesses, metalworkers and service providers in the town. Some well-known companies are also based in the industrial area, for example the pharmaceutical and cosmetics producer Eimermacher and the company Trendelkamp Technologie, a specialist in plastics technology and building technology. The largest employer in Nordwalde is Hengst Filterwerke, which produces filter systems and engine components.
