An (artists') village between Münster and Enschede

Schöppingen is located in the district of Borken near Ahaus and Steinfurt. Commuters benefit from the good connections in all directions: Münster and Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) are about 40 minutes away by car. You can reach the Dutch city of Enschede and the district town of Borkenjust as quickly. Dortmund is just under an hour and a half away by car.

The North Sea coast can be reached in just under two and a half hours via the nearby A31 motorway.

Tip: The Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

Living in Schöppingen

In addition to the town centre, Schöppingen also includes the rural district of Eggerode and a number of farming communities. The town centre and the housing estates of Schöppingen are bordered by industrial and commercial areas to the south-west and north. Scattered throughout the surrounding countryside are many individual farms, which together form the village's Bauerschaften.

Eggerode, which consists mainly of residential areas, is just under ten minutes by car from the town centre. Around 800 of the municipality's 7,000 inhabitants live here.

There is an exciting cultural centre in the historic town centre: the "Künstlerdorf Schöppingen". International artists and authors live and work in two listed manor houses, exhibit their works or present them at events and readings. Eggerode is also known beyond the region: It is a place of pilgrimage; every year many pilgrims visit the statue of Mary in the small chapel of grace.

Shopping in Schöppingen

In the centre of Schöppingen you can browse in clothing and shoe shops, there is also a jeweller, an electronics shop and of course bicycle shops that also offer accessories for e-bikes. There are various restaurants, cafés and an ice cream parlour around the old town hall and on the main street. You can buy groceries and everything for everyday life in several supermarkets. The Designer Outlet Ochtrup, 20 minutes away by car, invites you to go on extensive shopping tours.

Schöppingen is home to a primary school (with one location each in Schöppingen and Eggerode) and a secondary school.
