Westerkappeln is located on the border between Münsterland and Osnabrück Land in the north-east of the district of Steinfurt. Osnabrück is about 25 minutes away by car, Münster 45 minutes. Münster/Osnabrück Airport (FMO) can be reached in half an hour, and the district town of Steinfurt is just under an hour away. You can be in the Netherlands almost as quickly, for example in the popular city of Enschede.
By the way: Thanks to its location at the Lotte/Osnabrück motorway junction (A1 and A30), Westerkappeln not only offers the best conditions for commuters. You can also reach the North Sea coast via the A1 in a good hour and a half.

Tip: Münsterland is a cycling region! 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths offer you almost unlimited possibilities in the city and in the countryside: you can commute to work comfortably by bike and go on great tours with friends and family.

The municipality of Westerkappeln consists of the town centre, where most of the 11,000 inhabitants live, and nine small farming communities. Three of these - Handarpe, Hambüren and Lada - form the district of Velpe, which lies on the southern edge of the extensive municipal area.

Adjacent to this small town centre is a shopping centre with several supermarkets, a drugstore and a large clothing chain.

The educational opportunities in Westerkappeln cover all school-leaving qualifications with two primary schools, a comprehensive school and a vocational college for business and administration.

In neighbouring Mettingen there is a special school with a focus on learning and a grammar school.

Most residents commute from Westerkappeln to work in the surrounding area, for example to Osnabrück.
However, the two industrial and commercial areas of Velpe and "Westerkappeln Gartenkamp" are also home to some attractive companies, including quite a few logistics companies, plastics manufacturers, mechanical engineering companies and construction firms.
