Mission Open Data: Cultural Hackathon "Coding da Vinci" seeks programmers and hackers

Participation is still possible until 29 November

It has been running since 2014, and now the "Coding da Vinci" cultural hackathon is coming to the west of Germany for the first time - to the Ruhr region and Westphalia. The format connects the worlds of culture and technology in order to raise the potential of digitalised treasures. Creatives who programme, hack, develop, design or are active in the artistic field can participate until 29 November.

How does it work exactly? Many cultural institutions have a cultural treasure in the form of digitised data, such as historical photographs, sound or film files. At Coding da Vinci, they make this data available to creative people who use it to create new applications, mobile apps, services, games and visualisations.

"Some exciting projects and cooperations have already registered, but more are to come," says Andre Sebastian, head of the Münsterland Cultural Office at Münsterland e.V..

Anyone who is interested can still find out more and register until 29 November at https://codingdavinci.de/events/westfalen-ruhrgebiet/. Projects that have already been created can be viewed at https://hackdash.org/dashboards/cdvwest. Interested parties can present their project there or join an already existing team.

The münsterLAND.digital e.V. will provide meeting rooms for the participants at Hafenweg in Münster on 6, 13 and 20 November.

The results will be presented to the public in a big closing event on 6 December 2019 in the cinema hall of the Dortmunder U. A jury will award prizes to particularly outstanding projects.
