MÜNSTERLAND. Financial support for the cultural region: Today the Münsterland Cultural Council met and decided which projects it would propose to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for funding through the "RKP - Regional Cultural Policy" programme. In an online discussion, the members discussed, sometimes very intensively, which projects could particularly enrich the region.
"Especially against the backdrop of the drastic Corona crisis, the financial support of cultural projects is enormously important," says Andre Sebastian, head of the Münsterland Cultural Office. "Our region is characterised by a very diverse and dense cultural landscape that enriches social life. We want it to stay that way." The Cultural Office is based at the regional management organisation Münsterland e.V. and is responsible for coordinating regional cultural policy in Münsterland.
Together with the 50 Kulturrat representatives from politics and administration as well as various cultural sectors, the cultural office today discussed 34 project ideas: "Altogether, the applications have a total volume of around one million euros," says Sebastian. "The largest project applied for 210,000 euros, the smallest 6,500 euros." The result of the consultations and individual assessments by the Cultural Council is a ranking list that now goes to the Department for Regional Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of NRW. There, taking into account the available financial resources and the rankings of the other regions, a decision will be made as to which projects will receive a funding recommendation. "The number of approved applications for Münsterland usually fluctuates between 15 and 25," explains Andre Sebastian.
In addition to deciding on the RKP funding applications, the Cultural Council also approved the following personnel changes as part of the annual rotation: new members are Prof. Stephan Froleyks, Rainer Becker (Havixbeck Music School), Daniel Huhn (Filmwerkstatt Münster), Ruppe Koseleck (freelance artist), Dr. Britta Kusch-Arnhold (FARB Borken), Steffen Ruwe (JKZ Scheune) and Melanie Wiebusch (Forum Oelde).
The Regional Cultural Policy funding programme is primarily intended to support art and cultural projects that contribute to the profiling of the total of ten cultural regions in North Rhine-Westphalia. For the Münsterland cultural region, special attention is paid to the development of culture in rural areas under the guiding principle of inter-communal cooperation.
In addition to advising on funding projects for regional cultural policy, the Münsterland Cultural Council also provides impetus in terms of content, takes a stand on cultural policy issues and gives new weight to representing the interests of the cultural region.
