Successful renovation: "Münsterland is Climate Land" publishes guidelines for building projects

Conserve resources, reduce CO2 emissions, save energy: The renovation of buildings is an important topic on the way to more climate protection. As part of the initiative "Münsterland is Climate Land", Münsterland e.V., together with two districts and eleven municipalities from the region, has developed the Münsterland Refurbishment Guide, which serves as a guide for building projects.

On 70 pages, the brochure summarises everything worth knowing about energy-efficient renovation - from the initial idea to the construction period to completion and beyond. The content includes tips on how to start renovation, information on renovation concepts with qualified building energy advice and an overview of energy-efficient measures. Furthermore, financial planning and subsidies as well as information on building law and insurance are presented.

"The construction and use of buildings are among the main CO2 polluters in Germany," says Kira Funcke, climate protection manager for the district of Coesfeld. "The good news is that there is still enormous potential for savings, especially in the modernisation of buildings. That's why the topic of building renovation plays a major role in our joint climate protection work."

Lena Herzog, climate protection manager of the city of Beckum: "The heat turnaround, especially in existing buildings, is one of the greatest challenges of decarbonisation, especially since the price of CO2 is also continuing to rise and the alternatives for heating or insulating are interesting. However, the refurbishment of existing buildings is very complex and individual." The renovation guide, he said, is a concrete support for all those who want to deal with the issue.

"This document is a great joint effort and a good example of our initiative," says Ute Schmidt-Vöcks, project manager "Münsterland is Klimaland" at Münsterland e.V. The regional management organisation coordinates the region's climate protection work as a network centre. "Only together with many actors does 'Münsterland is Klimaland' receive the necessary attention."

Christian Böckenholt, climate networker of the NRW.Energy4Climate state organisation for the Münsterland region: "As NRW.Energy4Climate, we support regional initiatives and whet people's appetites for climate protection. The renovation guide ties in ideally with our previous programme in Klimaland: In ten steps, interested parties learn how professional renovation can be planned and implemented."

The renovation guide was jointly financed by the districts of Borken, Coesfeld, Steinfurt and Warendorf as well as the City of Münster and Münsterland e.V. The brochure - like all other media of the "Münsterland is Climate Land" campaign - can be downloaded from the brand portal of Münsterland e.V. at www.muensterland.com.

Further Information

The "Münsterland is Climate Land" campaign communicates information on the topics of renewable energies, building renovation, user behaviour, mobility and climate impact adaptation, and presents useful tips and information at www.muensterland.com/klimaland.

The following is available to all actors, especially climate protection managers, for implementation on site: Media packages, Klimaland campaign templates adapted to the Münsterland brand, as well as advertising and information materials, which can still be supplemented with the respective municipal logos. In this way, municipalities have the opportunity to increasingly call on their citizens to participate in events, local campaigns and to get involved in their hometowns via social media, press releases, posters and flyers. In addition, recommendations for action and knowledge on the topic of climate protection are conveyed.

Further information on the topics of the "Münsterland is Climate Land" campaign as well as an overview of which municipalities are involved can be found at www.muensterland.com/klimaland.
