Münsterland forever? Service Onboarding@Münsterland aims to attract international students to the region

Visitors from Finland, Colombia, South Africa and the Ukraine: 25 international students have been exploring Münsterland for a week as part of the so-called "Summer School" at Münster University of Applied Sciences. The two-week summer academy at the Department of Business, Münster School of Business (MSB), offers students the opportunity to gain international experience at a partner university abroad during the lecture-free period. Thematically, this year's Summer School revolves around upcycling and sustainability. The Onboarding@Münsterland service of Münsterland e.V. wants to ensure that the students come back later as skilled workers - it presented the region with its features and tourist highlights on Tuesday afternoon in Münster and gave an insight into the business landscape.

"Attracting international skilled workers plays an important role for companies and for Münsterland as a strong economic region. That is why we are pleased to welcome the students from all over the world to our region and to enter into conversation with them," said Eva Kleingräber from the Onboarding@Münsterland service. The interplay of city and countryside and the diverse mix of industries characterise the region. "It's not only a good place to live, but also a good place to work. That's what we want the students to take with them on their way."

With this service, Münsterland e.V. offers individual and personal advice for professionals who want to come to the region for the first time and supports them in arriving and feeling at home.

At the Summer School event, the onboarding team invited the students to an exchange in a cosy atmosphere after the presentation to answer questions as Münsterland experts.

During the two-week Summer School, the students get to know Münsterland and the city of Münster. Sibo Mchunu studies financial management at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth and is enthusiastic about the many leisure activities Münsterland has to offer: "It is very quiet but there are a lot of interesting things to do." She also likes the quiet country life and the sustainable way of life of the Münsterlanders. "I like the system of bringing back the plastic bottles in exchange of money." The Summer School will run for another week, after which the students will return home.

More about the Onboarding@Münsterland service

The Onboarding@Münsterland service was created as a regional initiative by employers and business stakeholders in the Münsterland region. It was officially launched in 2020 and is implemented by Münsterland e.V. with the support of numerous institutions in the region.
