Give away a picnic and support local trade: Action invites to cosy time out in the Christmas season

Picnicking always goes - also and especially in winter. In order to bring a cosy picnic atmosphere into people's own homes in Münsterland and at the same time support local trade, Münsterland e.V. has launched the "Give a Picnic as a Gift" campaign. The idea behind it: Numerous city marketings in Münsterland put together picnics themselves with all kinds of local specialities, vouchers or gift ideas, thus whetting the appetite for a picnic during Advent and anticipating the coming outdoor season. Already around 25 towns and municipalities from the region are taking part.

"We are overwhelmed that so many places in Münsterland have joined in and put together a local picnic in such a short time," emphasises Melanie Schlüters, head of the Picknick³ project at Münsterland e.V. "And with so many creative ideas: How about, for example, the 'Christmas market for at home' from Steinfurt, the 'winter picnic deluxe' from Rheine or the 'picnic for the man' from Bocholt?", Schlüters names just a few examples.

The picnic boxes are packed very differently: sometimes with regional mulled wine, sometimes with greeting cards, sometimes with fresh biscuits, chocolate and honey. You can find out exactly who is taking part and who has which picnic box on offer at muensterland.com/verschenkepicknick.

"Each picnic is unique and helps local trade at the same time. A great gift for loved ones at Christmas, the Advent calendar or a bit of home feeling for everyone we can't see right now," recommends Melanie Schlüters.

Münsterland Picnic Days from 18 to 20 June 2021

Picnic fans can already look forward to June 2021: that's when the Münsterland Picnic Days will take place around the International Picnic Day from 18 to 20 June 2021. At the invitation of Münsterland e.V., the tourism experts of the Münsterland region now exchanged views on this and other topics at a digital picnic dialogue. Some already announced that they want to support the format in their town or municipality. "The entire region will pull together to get locals and tourists excited about Münsterland," emphasises Melanie Schlüters: with picnics large and small, indoors and outdoors, in unusual places and especially with good and regional treats.
