Münsterland is the busiest cycling region in NRW

Result of the ADFC cycle tour analysis 2024

The Münsterland was the most travelled cycling region in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2023. This is the result of the ADFC cycle tour analysis, which the German Cyclists' Association presented today (Wednesday 6 March) at the ITB tourism trade fair in Berlin. The Münsterland is one of the top ten most travelled cycling regions in Germany in 8th place.

"We are delighted that so many guests came to cycle in Münsterland last year. Our region offers everything that cyclists appreciate: a flat landscape, more than 4,500 kilometres of cycle paths, around 200 circular routes and exciting themed routes such as the 100 Castles Route. Last but not least, the new junction system makes it even easier for guests to find their way around the cycle paths in Münsterland," emphasises Michael Kösters, Head of Tourism at Münsterland e.V.

"The survey results emphasise that the investments in the cycling region are paying off. Around 1.5 million euros have been invested in setting up the hub system alone over the past three years. The ERDF funding project 'Münsterland Castles and Palaces Region', which will be completed in 2023, is also having an impact: with a total volume of around ten million euros, it was one of the largest tourism projects that the region had ever jointly initiated. Among other things, the 100 Castles Route was strengthened through targeted infrastructure and marketing measures."

The data from the ADFC cycle tour analysis was collected between the end of October and mid-December 2023. According to the ADFC, the nationwide online survey is representative and set a new record with around 16,000 participants.
