Münsterland Festival part 10 focuses on European cultural diversity

The Münsterland Festival transcends borders - and unites ten partner countries from Europe in one event series for its tenth edition under the motto "10 from Europe". "We are using our anniversary edition to bring together the cultures of very different regions," explains Christine Sörries, artistic director of the festival. "In doing so, we want to show how diverse Europe is." A foretaste of the festival month from 10 October to 10 November is already available from 30 June (Sunday) at Burg Vischering in Lüdinghausen. The exhibition "Ruins Reserve" will open there at 5 pm.

The focus of this first event of the festival is the young, contemporary artist Mateusz Szczypiński (*1984) from Poland, who exhibits works between the genres of painting and collage. Szczypiński plays with well-known historical scenes as well as elements of famous works of art and builds them up into rapturous utopias in his visual worlds. The exhibition "Ruins Reserve" explores the question of what constitutes a work of art in our contemporary perception and makes it famous. The exhibitions will be on view at the Burg Vischering Museum until 3 November, Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.

Special diversity is also reflected in the selection of artists for the festival. "We are ensuring a colourful mix of old acquaintances and new faces. In doing so, we have also taken into account the wishes of our festival fans," explains Lars Krolik, head of the festival office at Münsterland e.V. One guest was therefore chosen by the visitors themselves in previous years. They were able to vote for their personal festival highlight in the last few months. The winner was Stelios Petrakis, who was a guest at the Pablo Picasso Art Museum in Münster in 2017. As a duo with Dimitris Sideris, the Greek musician is thus coming to the region again. With lyre and lute, the Stelios Petrakis Duo will bring Cretan lifestyle to the stage at Haus Siekmann in Sendenhorst on 3 November (Sunday).

Meanwhile, the BMW Jazz Award has been won by a group that will be guests at the Münsterland Festival for the first time: the Maciej Obara Quartet with artists from Poland and Norway, which will perform at the Museum Abtei Liesborn on 11 October (Friday). Just one day later, on 12 October (Saturday), there will be an exclusive Münsterland programme by the Münster Symphony Orchestra at the GBS Cultural Centre in Greven.

Delving deep into Portuguese culture, fadista Cristina Branco will perform with her quartet on 2 November (Saturday) at the Bagno Konzertgalerie in Burgsteinfurt. With her unmistakable voice and accompanied by Portuguese guitar, bass and piano, she tells the story of a young Portuguese finding herself.

The events are complemented by a diverse range of exhibitions and excursions. The complete programme book with a list of all concerts, exhibitions and excursions will be published in mid-August, interested parties can already pre-order it now. The central advance sale for all events will also start in mid-August. Tickets will then be available online, by phone on 02571 949392 and at local festival partners.
