Online lecture for cultural institutions: Profiting from open source programmes

MÜNSTERLAND. Zoom or Jitsi, Photoshop or GIMP, Jimdo or Wordpress: those who work digitally and online are often spoilt for choice between large software providers and open source alternatives. In a free online lecture on 11 May, 4 to 6 p.m., speaker Dr. Christian Knebel will explain why open source does not have to be complicated, but offers some advantages for cultural enterprises - even on a small budget.

The event is part of a new qualification series of the NRW Regional Cultural Policy funding programme and the cultural offices in the rural regions of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Simone Schiffer, project manager at the Münsterland Cultural Office, explains: "Due to the Corona pandemic, our workshops for cultural actors in the Münsterland often take place digitally, and the same is true in the other cultural regions of NRW. Reason enough to use synergies and to jointly design online offers and provide them across regions. Each region contributes formats on promotion, fundraising or marketing - topics that concern and preoccupy us all".

The practical online lecture is intended to show cultural practitioners that open source software offers many possibilities, especially with regard to digital participation, transparency and self-determination. As managing director of PublicPlan GmbH, speaker Dr. Christian Knebel assists administrations in the digitisation process, among other things.
