Picnicking with the best view: special equipment elements in Nordkirchen

Picnic areas enrich the palace and castle region

Taking a break here is particularly fun: two new picnic areas in Nordkirchen with a variety of equipment invite you to linger and show what added value high-quality equipment elements can offer. One encourages people to enjoy a picnic with a table, bench or picnic platform at Nordkirchen Castle, the other in the village park in Nordkirchen-Capelle. The furniture was purchased through the ERDF funding project "Münsterland Castles and Palaces Region" and installed by the municipality of Nordkirchen. The planning was supported by the district of Coesfeld and Münsterland e.V. as the project organiser.

"These special picnic areas make a visit to the castles and palaces region an even greater experience. Anyone travelling along the 100 Castles Route will find the right infrastructure here to take a break and enjoy the surroundings," emphasises Michael Kösters, Head of Tourism at Münsterland e.V.

Two picnic tables, two seating areas, two picnic platforms and a wave lounger have been set up at Nordkirchen Castle with a view of the orangery. At the Capelle site in the village park, there is now a canopy, a swing, a solar panel, two e-bike charging stands and two normal bicycle stands. "We are delighted that the picnic areas have found a home in Nordkirchen. These will certainly not only go down well with cyclists, but also with local people - regardless of whether they want to sit, lie down or swing," emphasises Nordkirchen's mayor Dietmar Bergmann.

"I couldn't imagine a better picnic than one surrounded by greenery with a view of the Westphalian Versailles," adds Stefan Göttker, Head of Administration at the University of Finance, which is the landlord of Nordkirchen's baroque palace. "That's why we were immediately willing to provide a suitable spot close to the busy cycle route."

The two picnic areas thus add to the numerous equipment elements that have been set up in the Münsterland region as part of the ERDF funding project "Castles and Castles Region Münsterland", which was led by the districts of Borken, Coesfeld, Steinfurt, Warendorf and the city of Münster. There are now more than 300 of them along the 100 Castles Route and at the castles and fortresses, including information boards, photo frames, bicycle hangers, benches, wave loungers and table/bench combinations.
