District President Andreas Bothe becomes patron of the "Münsterland is Climate Land" campaign

Save CO2, eat sustainably or cultivate a climate-friendly garden: Everyone can do something for climate protection. Since its launch in 2021, the "Münsterland is Climate Land" campaign has been showing citizens best-practice examples from the region and providing climate tips for the home. Andreas Bothe, District President of Münster, is taking on the patronage of the climate campaign, thus underlining the importance of regional climate protection. The campaign is the result of the initiative "Münsterland ist Klimaland" (Münsterland is Climate Land), to which the four Münsterland districts and the City of Münster have joined forces with 61 municipalities from the region to jointly encourage citizens to take action for the climate. The campaign is coordinated by the regional management organisation Münsterland e.V. and the state agency for energy and climate protection, NRW.Energy4Climate.

District President Andreas Bothe: "We are all aware that the fight against man-made climate change is a task of the century. For NRW, too, this poses major challenges for which solutions urgently need to be found. In order for NRW to be successfully transformed into Europe's first climate-neutral industrial region, we must all pull together. By committing to the climate campaign 'Münsterland is climate land', the municipalities are sending an important signal. For climate protection to succeed, commitment at the local level is indispensable." Münsterland is already on the right track, he said. "The campaign shows, for example, committed citizens who implement sustainable and energetic solutions when renovating old houses."

Klaus Ehling, board member of Münsterland e.V., sees great added value for the region in the campaign: "Being close to nature is part of the DNA of the people in Münsterland. The high quality of life in our region is one of our great strengths, which we must preserve. With the climate campaign, we want to encourage even more locals to live sustainably and to get involved in climate protection at home or with the local community in order to collectively make our contribution to the good life in Münsterland."

Ulf C. Reichardt, CEO of NRW.Energy4Climate: "The climate campaign has gained an important advocate in the region with District President Andreas Bothe. The campaign makes climate protection a concrete reality. Cities and municipalities play a decisive role in climate protection, because it is here that concrete projects can be initiated and realised, for example in the area of transport, in the heat transition or in the building sector. Only together can we drive forward the energy and heat transition - our regional offices help with this on the ground." The contact persons in Münster have been NRW.Klimanetzwerker Christian Böckenholt since 1 April 2022 and NRW.Klimanetzwerker Carolin Wicke since 1 February 2023. Among other things, they support the municipalities and districts in implementing the climate campaign.

The campaign "Münsterland is Climate Land" communicates information on the topics of renewable energies, building renovation, user behaviour, mobility and climate impact adaptation, and presents useful tips and information at www.muensterland.com/klimaland. For local implementation, media packages, Klimaland campaign templates adapted to the Münsterland brand, advertising and information materials are available to all actors, especially climate protection managers, which can still be supplemented with the respective municipal logos. In this way, municipalities have the opportunity to increasingly call on their citizens to participate in events, local campaigns and to get involved in their hometown via social media, press releases, posters and flyers. In addition, recommendations for action and knowledge on the topic of climate protection are conveyed.
