Arrive and feel good in Münsterland

Service Onboarding@Münsterland welcomes international nursing staff of the UKM to the region

A different country, a new job, an unfamiliar region: several international nursing professionals started as new employees at Münster University Hospital (UKM) by the end of September and are now getting a taste of Münsterland for the first time. At a day organised by the UKM to get to know each other, the team of the Onboarding@Münsterland service also welcomed them on Wednesday and told them more about the region and their support in Münsterland.

The nursing staff come from countries such as Italy, Iran, Turkey and Albania and have already got to know their new colleagues and their new workplace at the UKM on their first days at work. On Wednesday, they gained even more insight into the region during a joint lunch and a guided tour of Münster. As a member of the employer network Onboarding@Münsterland des Münsterland e.V., the UKM received support on the day from the team of the Onboarding@Münsterland service. "We are pleased that the UKM is a member of our employer network and are happy to get involved when it comes to welcoming newcomers to the region in an appreciative manner," emphasised Monika Leiking, service manager. "Because in the competition for skilled workers, employer branding is not only the task of employers, but also the task of the region." So the service team not only had all kinds of exciting information about Münsterland at the ready, but also a small welcome bag - "including a bicycle bell, of course, which can't be missing in Münsterland and especially in Münster on bicycle tours," said Leiking.

The new Münsterlanders were grateful for the new insights and impressions and also told more about their personal situation. "It is very exciting to work in a language that is not your mother tongue, even if there are sometimes difficulties and misunderstandings," said Handan Aytac, a care worker from Turkey. "And the working atmosphere in the university hospital in Münster was even better than I thought. For my family and me, one thing is certain: we love living in Münsterland!"

"We as the integration team of the UKM are very pleased that the Onboarding@Münsterland service builds a bridge for the nursing staff across the cosmos of the UKM when they arrive in the city of Münster and the Münsterland with so much commitment and creative ideas," emphasised Angelika Maase, staff unit nursing development at the UKM.

The Onboarding@Münsterland service was developed as a regional initiative by employers and economic players in Münsterland, and is implemented by Münsterland e.V. with the support of numerous institutions in the region. The service supports employers in employer branding and location marketing as well as skilled workers in arriving, feeling good and staying in the region. Employers can become members of the network and thus secure a variety of benefits: more visibility, support in location marketing, exclusive networking and professional events and a personal advisory service for job applicants. Large-scale skilled labour campaigns are also planned. In addition, new employees and other newcomers to the region can make exciting contacts at welcome events.

The newcomers have already marked another date in their calendars for getting to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere: 28 October (Wednesday). This is when the next welcome event of the Onboarding@Münsterland service will take place in Münster - circumstances permitting in view of the Corona pandemic.
