Arrive and Münsterland: How the region is making Münsterland the new home for skilled workers

Service Onboarding@Münsterland presents itself at the 11th Dialogue on Securing Skilled Workers

A decision for a job is always also a decision for a place to live. The new Onboarding@Münsterland service of Münsterland e.V. was developed to convince skilled workers of the Münsterland. It supports skilled workers in arriving in Münsterland and employers in the region in recruiting skilled workers. Together with other approaches to the topic, the service was the focus of the 11th Dialogue on Securing Skilled Workers on Tuesday at the Pietsch Group in Ahaus. The WFG Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft für den Kreis Borken mbH, the wfc Wirtschaftsförderung Kreis Coesfeld GmbH, the Agentur für Arbeit Coesfeld and Münsterland e.V. had invited the participants.

"We want to strengthen Münsterland as an attractive region to work and live in and make it perceptible beyond its borders. Because in the competition for skilled workers, employer branding is not only the task of employers, but also the task of the region," Monika Leiking, head of the Onboarding@Münsterland service, made clear at the presentation of the service. This service addresses both skilled workers and employers. Newcomers and returnees are supported in finding their way around their new home, receive information on the topics of work, housing and life, receive personal advice and can make new contacts at welcome events. The service brings employers together in a Münsterland-wide network and also supports them in location marketing. "It is important that companies commit to our region and that we use the network to present them as attractive employers," Leiking emphasised.

Rendel Pietsch from the Pietsch Group of Companies, as host, also spoke about the importance of securing skilled labour for companies in the region. "As companies, we have to be self-confident and work together to strengthen our region. We are all the more pleased that the service provides us with experts who support us in this," said Rendel Pietsch. The Ahaus-based company took part in the pilot phase of the service as one of 16 pilot companies and supported Münsterland e.V. in developing and testing the Onboarding@Münsterland service.

In a talk with returnees and newcomers, Wilke Strube from d.velop AG in Gescher, Janna Dujesiefken, psychotherapist for children and young people from Ahaus, and Markus Köchling, managing director of the zoo and animal park service THE GERMAN WILDLIFESERVICE from Coesfeld, also explained why they had come (back) to Münsterland. For Janna Dujesiefken, for example, starting a family played an important role in her decision to leave Hamburg with her husband and move to her old home in Ahaus. "The time in Hamburg was super nice, but only for one phase of life. When I got pregnant, I wanted to go back to the roots, back to the family," she said. Three words she associates with Münsterland? "Tradition, warmth and nature," said Dujesiefken.

Zuzana Blazek from the Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft (Institute of the German Economy) in Cologne had also previously highlighted the issue of skilled workers in a keynote speech. Under the title "Here I want to go ..., here I want to stay". she spoke on the question of how companies not only attract skilled workers, but also retain them. In her view, the problem will not become smaller in the future, but bigger. This makes it all the more important to define a clear target group when recruiting employees, to implement life-oriented human resources work and employer branding.
