The "Regional Culture Programme NRW" awards funding: Cultural actors can apply until 30 September

Support offered by the Münsterland Cultural Office on 17 August

Every year, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia awards funding for cultural projects through the "Regional Culture Programme NRW" (RKP). Art and culture professionals from the Münsterland region can apply for this financial support until 30 September. The prerequisites are a good idea, cooperation and networking. Mandatory and helpful is advice from the Münsterland Cultural Office, which assists with project planning and filling out the online form.

"The funding programme has been running very successfully for 25 years and has already made many exciting projects possible in Münsterland," says Andre Sebastian, head of the Münsterland Cultural Office. "It is one of the best ways to get money for your own project. In particular, cooperation is an important feature and criterion of the RKP: a project needs at least three partners from at least two municipalities or cities."

Fittingly for this anniversary, the programme has also changed its name: Formerly "Regional Cultural Policy", since spring 2022 now "Regional Culture Programme". In terms of content, it continues to fund projects and measures that support the cultural profile of the cultural region. Typical of culture in the Münsterland are the areas of tension between tradition and modernity, city and country or down-to-earthness and innovation.

In addition to private individuals, creative clubs, associations, municipalities, institutions and independent organisations can also apply.

Exemplary projects that were funded in 2022 are "FREUBAD", a mixed arts festival in regional outdoor pools, "Niemandsland", a dance workshop by the MNEME kollektiv for schoolchildren, or the woodwind festival "Summerwinds" with venues throughout Münsterland.

"Without the RKP, there wouldn't be a breeze at Summerwinds," says Karina Leckelt from the Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work. "The RKP makes the woodwind festival, which is unique in Europe, possible in the first place." Summerwinds is already taking place for the sixth time and is currently running until 2 September.

Just like last year, in addition to the actual project application, so-called supplementary funds for accessibility can be applied for in 2022. Project-related measures that enable people with disabilities to participate in cultural life can be subsidised with up to 5,000 euros per cultural project. "This can be, for example, interpreting into sign language, audio description or the barrier-free design of communication media," Sebastian explains.

Those who are still looking for impulses for their project or need support with the application process can also attend the event "RKP - what is it?" on 17 August in Greven and learn more about the programme and the application process there.

Further Information

Since 1997, the "Regional Culture Programme" has been funding projects that strengthen communication and cooperation between creators and those responsible in NRW's cultural regions, bundle forces, network and strengthen the identity and attractiveness of the region. The state funding amounts to a maximum of 50 percent of the total expenditure. In Münsterland, the Cultural Council discusses the project ideas submitted. If it makes a recommendation, a formal application can be submitted to the Münster district government.
