Newcomers on board: Service Onboarding@Münsterland welcomes skilled workers to the region

Getting to know the country and its people, exchanging ideas with like-minded people, gaining first impressions of GOOD LIFE in Münsterland: All this was the focus on Wednesday evening at the first welcome event of the Onboarding@Münsterland service of Münsterland e.V. More than 40 newcomers came to the Trafostation in Münster at the invitation of Onboarding@Münsterland and took the opportunity to get to know each other in a relaxed way. The welcome event is part of the Münsterland-wide Onboarding@Münsterland service: it addresses new skilled workers and returnees as well as employers who are looking for staff and can thus offer job applicants events like this one, for example.

"We are thrilled with the great response to our first welcome event," emphasised Monika Leiking, head of the Onboarding@Münsterland service. "For the future, we are planning many more events like this in Münster and all the counties in the region to welcome skilled workers to Münsterland in an appreciative way and bring them closer to the region and its people."

The guests gratefully accepted the offer. "I think such an event is good and important - not only for new Münsterlanders, but actually for everyone," said Tore Süßenguth, for example, who was born in Hamburg and now lives in Münsterland. Franziska Menge moved to Münster from Berlin six months ago. "The event was a good occasion for me to get out of my everyday life and take the chance to network further," the 31-year-old emphasised. Her first impression of the region? "Münster is a very harmonious city. It's easy to combine work and leisure here."

The multiple award-winning poetry slammer Andreas Weber, who explained the "common Münsterlander" to the newcomers, also provided plenty to talk about that evening.

The welcome event is a new event format of the Onboarding@Münsterland service. Münsterland e.V. developed the service together with companies and economic actors in the region, and it was tested in practice in a pilot phase starting in 2019. With a developed business model, the service will now be launched this year.

Onboarding@Münsterland has two target groups: Skilled workers and employers. "On the one hand, we support newcomers and returnees in their arrival, give them an initial orientation in their new home and answer their questions about Münsterland," explained service manager Monika Leiking. "On the other hand, we explicitly address employers. We want to bring them together in a Münsterland-wide network so that together we can make the region perceived as an attractive place to work and live for skilled workers." The service includes not only events such as the welcome event, but also advisory services for skilled workers on topics such as living, housing and working, as well as networking events for employers and support with location marketing.

"A job decision is always also a decision about where to live. The Onboarding@Münsterland service is therefore a valuable contribution to the employer branding of employers in Münsterland," emphasised Klaus Ehling, board member of Münsterland e.V. "But employer branding is also a task for the region. Together with the employers, we want to shine beyond the borders as an economic region and at the same time strengthen the common regional identity."
