Cycling tour Of gardens, parks and natural landscapes

The very different gardens and parks make up the charm of this 5-day cycle tour. Each garden or park has its own unique character. So the cycle tour on the flat cycle paths of the Münsterland region always remains exciting and interesting. The Picker perennial garden in Borken, the rose garden in Lüdinghausen and the park at Lembeck Castle are carefully tended gardens that stand for distinctive garden art. With a strong connection to the surrounding landscape, the beautiful historic zoological gardens at the worthwhile castles in Velen and Raesfeld are inviting. The natural landscapes of the Hohe Mark enchant you around the lakes of Haltern am See with the beautiful heathland of the Westruper Heide. In between, many more gardens and parks await you with the Wildpark Dülmen, the Apothekerpark Borken and the Aaseepark in Bocholt. And don't forget the wonderful castles, charming villages and cosy farm cafés along the route.

Your itinerary for the Gardens, Parks and Natural Landscapes Cycle Tour

Day 1

The Rhede Castle The Rhede Castle

Journey to Rhede

The destination of the journey is the small town of Rhede in the western Münsterland. The square around the mighty church is considered the "good parlour" of Rhede. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed. Only a few metres away are the castle and the medicine and pharmacy museum. The perfect day to start the journey in peace and quiet

Day 2

The Pharmacy Garden in Borken The Pharmacy Garden in Borken

Rhede - Coesfeld (approx. 50 km)

Today you will experience very different gardens. The Picker perennial garden in Borken-Weseke enchants with its variety of blossoms and artistically designed beds. Garden lovers will take away many design ideas for their own gardens. The historic zoo in Velen presents itself in a completely different light. Extensive and modelled on the historical plans, the zoo shows its old character again. Today's destination is the lively town of Coesfeld in the heart of the Münsterland.

Day 3

The mighty Vischering Castle The mighty Vischering Castle

Coesfeld - Lüdinghausen (approx. 38 km)

Between Coesfeld and Lüdinghausen, the Münsterland shows its particularly rural side. Quiet landscapes, rolling hills and small towns characterise the cycle tour. The Dülmen Wildlife Park already marks the transition to the High Mark. Take some time and stop off at one of the lovely farm cafés. At the stage destination in Lüdinghausen, two imposing buildings worth seeing await you: Lüdinghausen Castle and Vischering Castle.

Day 4

The picturesque Westruper Heide near Haltern am See The picturesque Westruper Heide near Haltern am See

Lüdinghausen - Raesfeld (approx. 55 km)

A bike tour could hardly be more varied. Right after the start, the lovely rose garden awaits you in the district of Lüdinghausen-Seppenrade. Countless species of roses compete in their flowering splendour and invite you to linger. The cycle path continues to the lake district around Haltern am See. Enjoy the views of the lakes and don't miss a visit to the beautiful Westrup Heath. Leave your bike for a short while and take a short hike across the sandy soil.

Lembeck Castle is already back in the western Münsterland. The park, surrounded by water, is impressive on its own. Raesfeld is the destination of this eventful day. You spend the night in the shadow of Raesfeld Castle.

Day 5

Raesfeld - Rhede (approx. 39 km)

Before the cycle tour draws to a close, a detour to the historic Raesfeld Zoo is a must. Forests alternate with lakes and heathland and offer a wonderful start to the day. You can find more information about the park in the adjacent information centre.

The city of Bocholt is the centre of the western Münsterland. Stroll through the beautiful shopping streets, visit the Aasee lake and take a look at the textile museum. The cycle route continues towards Bocholt-Barlo with Diepenbrock Castle. This is where the last section of the cycle tour back to Rhede begins.
