Castle meets Schlaun

Johann Conrad Schlaun lived in Münster for many years and designed some magnificent buildings in the university city. Today you have time to take a look at these buildings and the city of Münster. Then continue to the Überwasserkirche, where Schlaun was buried. The next destination is the Lotharing Monastery, Schlaun's last work. You can now round off the eventful day in one of the numerous restaurants in Münster's city centre.

Today, the most important Westphalian residential complex awaits you - Nordkirchen Castle. During a 1.5-hour guided tour , you will learn a lot about the castle community. Why is the Schloßstraße as wide as it is today? Where exactly was the castle's maze, or who once lived in what is now the Schlaun Café? In the Nordkirchen castle community, several examples point to the work of Johann Conrad Schlaun. The influence of the architect, who was famous in Westphalia, cannot be denied in Nordkirchen. In particular, large parts of the castle park of the "Westphalian Versailles" are based on plans and drawings by the master builder.

After the tour, you can enjoy coffee and cake in the Schlaun Café and take a stroll through the castle community before you start your journey home.

Alternatively, you can book another night in Münster and drive to Haus Rüschhaus the next day. The late Baroque house was built by Johann Conrad Schlaun from 1745 to 1749 as his own country residence. For the design of the house, he combined features of rural and representative, stately architecture both inside and out. Haus Rüschhaus is not far from Münster and can be discovered beautifully on a bicycle tour.
