Getting to know each other over a Münsterland snack

You start with a typical Münsterland snack on the farm of the Centre for Leisure Riding in Legden, an experienced trail riding company in the Münsterland. After a welcome round, you will get to know your trail horse for the next few days while it is being groomed and saddled. And off you go! You sit in the saddle and ride through deep forests and untouched nature, along forest and meadow paths, to your first destination of the day, the Ritter estate in Stadtlohn. Over a traditional Münsterland dinner, you can look back on your first day in the saddle and look forward to the next few days.

The wild horses in the Merfelder Bruch

Now it's time to get back in the saddle after breakfast and the highlight of the multi-day tour awaits you. You ride to the Dülmen wild horses in the Merfelder Bruch! You ride through the dense forest around the wild horse track and there they are - what an incredible atmosphere at the sight of the approx. 400 horses. The special thing is that you ride your trail horse to within a few metres of the wild horses. A moment you will never forget! You watch the wild horses behaving naturally and admire the calm atmosphere. You will listen spellbound to the words of the ranger and learn a lot about the wild horse track. At lunchtime, a picnic awaits you with a view of the Dülmen wild horses. In the evening, you will return to the Schmelting Hotel Restaurant to enjoy Westphalian cuisine as on the previous day.

An eventful day lies behind you, but your multi-day trail ride in Münsterland is not over yet. From Hotel Schmelting, today's stage leads through the Letter Bruch, past the listed Letter Windmill. The landscape slowly becomes more hilly again and you reach the foothills of the Baumberge. Beautiful nature lines the forest and meadow paths to your unusual overnight destination, Gerleve Abbey. The impressive abbey lies at the foot of the Coesfelder Berg and awaits you with Benedictine hospitality.

Farewell picnic

After a hearty breakfast, you will sit on your trail horse for the last time. The last stage takes you over small paths, through meadows and fields, into the Berkel meadows. The paddock lies by the river, where you say goodbye to your faithful companion of the last few days. While the horse rests in the meadow, you return to the centre for leisure riding in Legden. Before you set off on your journey home, you can round off the multi-day trail ride in Münsterland with a cosy farewell picnic.

Good-natured Tinker Good-natured Tinker

When talking about the Tinker, the first thing that comes to mind is the striking appearance - piebald in all variations, lush kötenbehang, full long hair and the typical little goat's beard on the lower lip. The Irish breed has become a fashionable horse in Europe since the 1990s and still enjoys great popularity in the course of leisure riding.

Originally, Tinkers were draught and work horses of the travelling Travellers, an Irish population group without a permanent residence, who were derogatorily called Tinkers (tinkers, gypsies).
These horses are quite diverse, not only in appearance, as characteristics of warmbloods as well as ponies and cold-bloods can be recognised. From the heavy draught horse with cold blood characteristics to the medium-heavy types and the Tinker with pony influence, different characteristics are possible. All these characteristics make them a perfect companion for a ride - fearless, calm and for almost every size of rider you can also find the right size of horse.
