Active in the Münsterland

Although most of the Münsterland is rather flat, it still offers great conditions for various sporting activities. You've probably already heard that you can enjoy biking and riding here. But hikers will also find many interesting routes in the region! Even for advanced hikers.

The many beautiful gardens and parks at castles and palaces naturally also provide a wonderful backdrop for jogging or walking. And if you love the water, you can venture out on one of the many rivers in a canoe or rowing boat.

Jogging along castles and fortresses

Why not combine sport with building culture? The Münsterland palaces and castles region is simply ideal for such a jog. Here are a few ideas:

  • The paths of the Bagno Park in Burgsteinfurt can be combined to create running circuits of different lengths. The classic circuit is 3.5 kilometres long. The beautiful Steinfurt Castle stands at the edge of the park.
  • The marked circular routes of up to 5 km in length in the historic zoo at Raesfeld Castle lead through a wonderful landscape of forest, meadow and heath. At the end of your exercise session, you can take a break in the castle café.You can really switch off and enjoy nature in the 55-hectare wooded Velen Zoo. Velen Castle, whose castle park adjoins the zoo, is of course also worth a stop.Through the Salinenpark, past Bentlage Monastery, along the River Ems and through the centre of Bentlager Forest - there is plenty to see on your running route in this part of the city of Rheine.
  • A green tunnel now runs around the old town centre where the city walls once stood. Münster's approx. 4.5 km long, car-free promenade is simply perfect for jogging. A stop at Münster Castle, which is located directly on the promenade, is a must.
