Experience the history around Beelen up close. Take a bike tour to the most beautiful places and sights around the small community.
You start the circular tour in the centre of Beelen and follow the route through small farming communities and a landscape characterised by picturesque streams and forests. In Ostenfelde you will pass the Vornholz moated castle, which has an inviting parking area and is home to a cavalry museum. A little further away from the village lies the ruins of the former Nienburg moated castle, a mystical place where, according to legend, a treasure is buried that is guarded by the "giggling and chain-rattling devil".
After leaving this special place, the route takes you past Ennigerloh until you reach Westkirchen after a short time. Worth seeing here is Haus Dieck: a manor house from the 18th century and the windmill from the 19th century. On the further route towards Freckenhorst, you will pass the Schneckenberg, a small hill. Shortly afterwards you will reach Freckenhorst Castle, a baroque building from the 18th century.
Then follow the Mussenbach past the forest area "Förster Richards Büsche" and the nature reserve "Emsaue und Mussenbachaue" to Müssingen. From here, the route takes you past the Kottrup Lakes into the historic old town of Warendorf with sights such as the town houses, the Krickmarkt and the historic town hall. You leave the town in an easterly direction and cycle past the Emssee lake and the Emssee park. Now you cycle along the Ems through the nature reserve "Emsaue west of Warendorf" and finally back to Beelen.
