Horses and nature around Dülmen

This circular cycle route starts in the centre of Dülmen and first leads through the picturesque Dülmen Game Park with mixed forest, clearings, ponds and pools where, with a bit of luck, you can watch red deer and fallow deer.

The cycle route continues through a small pine forest and the beautiful lowlands of the Merfelder Bruch to the only game stud farm in Europe. A visit to the approximately 400 wild horses is an impressive experience (only at weekends). The horses, which are protected as a natural monument, are left to their own devices on about 400 hectares.

Particularly worth seeing on the way back is the rhododendron forest in the Dülmen district of Welte, which turns into a fairytale-like, colourful sea of blossoms in spring. From here, the route leads past idyllically situated farmsteads back to Dülmen.
