Nature in HIGH enjoyment

From Havixbeck to Billerbeck

The gentle park landscape of the western Münsterland, the hills of the Baumberge and the course of the Berkel: this tour includes everything a cyclist's heart desires. Enjoy great views from the ridges between Nottuln and Billerbeck and admire the beauty of nature in combination with the cycle path and the castle. Your tour starts and ends at the beautiful Hülshoff Castle - one of the most popular destinations in Münsterland.

To the highest elevation of the Baumberge

You start off in a south-westerly direction in the middle of the famous Münsterland park landscape: lush meadows and pastures line the path as you pass the villages of Natrup and Tilbeck. A short barefoot walk in Tilbeck could be your first port of call: this time-out takes about an hour. Alternatively, you can simply take a moment to close your eyes and listen to nature.

On the onward journey, you will pass through Schapdetten, a district of the municipality of Nottuln. The route then takes you along picturesque and unspoilt countryside. A little game of hide-and-seek with the Stever, which appears from time to time along the way, accompanies you on the rest of the route. In the distance you can already see the Longinus Tower on the Westerberg.

Tip: The tower is the highest point in the Münsterland region and offers a magnificent view over the Münsterland park landscape as far as Emsland, the Teutoburg Forest, the Ruhr region and our Dutch neighbours. In addition, Café 18|97 is located here, which invites you to linger with homemade cakes and tarte flambée, among other things.

Cathedral city with historic centre

The route continues through the Baumberge, along the Berkel, through idyllic surroundings and the Berkelaue nature reserve. Here you can take a short break at the water treading pool before heading to Billerbeck. Can you already see the top of Billerbeck Cathedral?

Tip: Experience this beautiful small town with its historic town centre and mighty cathedral. As a state-recognised place of recreation and pilgrimage, Billerbeck offers many opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment.

The treasures of the region

A little further on, the Kolvenburg awaits you. The listed, small moated castle is now a top-class exhibition venue in a historical ambience that is known far beyond the region. The cultural programme is very broad: Concerts, art exhibitions and more.

The last stage of this circular tour takes you along the famous 100 Castles Route - the "Queen of Cycling Tours" in Münsterland - to Havixbeck. On the way, you will pass the Billerbeck open-air theatre, the Baumberg Sandstone Museum and (with a small detour) the Havixbeck House. At Hülshoff Castle you will be greeted by spacious lawns and an impressive view of the estate.

Tip: Order a ready-packed picnic basket so that you can enjoy a very special finale after your bike tour: a cosy outdoor meal with a magnificent castle backdrop.

Note e-bike

The hilly terrain promises a lot of variety and great panoramic views over the Baumberge landscape. Time and again, nature opens up and allows a view into the distance - it quickly becomes clear that nature lovers will get their money's worth here. This route is particularly suitable for e-bike riders because of the hilly landscape combined with the route length. Charging stations can be found everywhere along the route.
