Legden does not call itself a "dahlia village" for nothing. The calendar of events also revolves around this flower time and again. The dahlia market is known far beyond the borders of the town. The Düstermühlenmarkt in late summer looks back on a long tradition. Those interested in culture look forward to the events at the beautiful Asbeck Abbey. On Sunday, 18 August 2024, the festival begins at 1 p.m. with live music and coffee and cake. A colourful supporting programme in the dahlia garden invites the whole family to spend a wonderful time in the centre of Legden next to the church.
The Düstermühlenmarkt has been taking place for centuries. It is not only a folk festival, but also one of the largest agricultural exhibitions in the Münsterland region. Music and dance events as well as small animal and craft markets complete the programme. In addition to animals such as horses, ponies, goats, poultry and small animals of all kinds, textiles, household goods, tools, agricultural machinery, garden furniture, riding equipment, household chemicals and much more are also traded.
Every year, tens of thousands of visitors are drawn to the Wehr farming community at Düstermühle on the last Monday in August and the Saturday before (from 18:00 only funfair and party in the tents) and Sunday.
Sufficient car parking spaces are available at the site.
The organisers are the farms and businesses located on the administrative site.
A festival centred around the "Asbeck plum" and the listed building ensemble of Asbeck Abbey.
The café is open from 13:30. Coffee, plum cake and cold drinks can be purchased here.
There will be guided tours for young and old. The museum is also open. Here you can put on VR glasses and take a virtual tour of the medieval monastery complex and learn more about the history of the estate.
The Musikzugverein will provide a fitting backdrop to the festivities with a concert at.
First-class live music and a big family programme with a dahlia children's parade for the finale on Sunday! Admission is free!

On 15 September 2024, the Kids Korso rolls through the dahlia village of Legden. An eye-catcher for all ages. The small parade starts at 2.30 pm with dahlia-decorated small cars small cars through the centre of Legden. The (large) flower parade traditionally takes place every 3 years.
