Raesfeld

Picturesquely situated in the south of the Münsterland and in the middle of the Hohe Mark Nature Park, Raesfeld forms the bridge to the Lower Rhine and the Ruhr area. Anyone who enjoys cycling, hiking or visiting castles and gardens is in the right place in Raesfeld.

A castle with many faces

A princely welcome is guaranteed in Raesfeld: the imposing tower of the historic moated castle greets visitors from afar. Many couples tie the knot in the shadow of the highest castle tower in Westphalia. Hardly any other castle in Münsterland offers so many different views. A walk around Raesfeld Castle is absolutely worthwhile. Embedded in the adjoining freedom, the building blends particularly harmoniously into the townscape.

The historic Raesfeld Zoo is a beautiful destination for all seasons

One of the oldest Renaissance zoological gardens in Germany is located directly behind Raesfeld Castle. Picturesque footpaths lead through a beautiful natural setting alternating lakes, forests, meadows and heathland. The zoo is complemented by a 5,000 square metre nature experience area with numerous stations for families. It is an excursion destination for all seasons. You will be well informed about the castle and the zoo in the multi-award-winning nature park house Tiergarten Schloss Raesfeld.

More than just a tree

In the district of Erle you can marvel at a centuries-old fem oak. With an age of between 600 and 850 years, the tree is one of the oldest oaks in Germany. It can be proven that courts were held under the oak tree until the 16th century. It is considered the oldest and best-known court tree in Central Europe. Furthermore, the Femeiche is not only a natural monument, but has also been declared a national heritage tree in 2021.
