A short holiday for all

Barrier-free travel in Vreden and the surrounding area

Did you know that the town of Vreden is the only town in the Münsterland region to have been awarded the "Travel for All" quality mark? Many sights, hotels and restaurants here bear the quality mark. This means that reliable information on accessibility is available to you. Thanks to strict selection criteria, award-winning establishments offer pleasant holidays for everyone - whether families, older people or people with a disability.

You can find some of them on this page! The following travel inspiration shows you what a three-day accessible holiday in Vreden and the surrounding area could look like.

Arrive in Vreden

Hotel Meyerink is always a good choice for accommodation in Vreden. The family-run hotel is certified according to "Travel for All" and is centrally located in Vreden. The building and all other rooms are accessible without steps or via a lift. You can find the test report with all important information here. In the hotel restaurant you can enjoy regional and home-style cooking in the evening.

Haven't had enough yet? Then head for a drink at the most beautiful summer location in Vreden - the OFFSHORE Berkelbeach. Recreation and relaxation for everyone at the Berkelsee in Vreden! Enjoy your drink here directly on the beach, which is partly lined with hold targets, and let your mind wander. The OFFSHORE Berkelbeach is also certified according to "Travel for All". You can find all the information in the test report.

Culture, nature and culinary delights

Discover Vreden on the barrier-free city tour "Vreden for All". With the tour guide, you go to the most beautiful part of the city centre and learn about Vreden's history. You will pass picturesque buildings and historical monuments. If you wish, you can also visit some old churches from the inside. All buildings are accessible without steps or via a ramp. A tactile model of the town of Vreden also awaits you. You can find all important information about the accessibility of the city tour here. You can also experience the city tour on your own. You will find the tour with further information on the individual stops in a small brochure.

The kult in Vreden combines modern architecture, museum, research and science like hardly any other building in West Germany. A visit to the exhibition is therefore a must during your stay in Vreden. The kult is also certified according to "Travel for All". You can find all the information about accessibility in the test report.

For a break, we recommend the Café Altes Rathaus in the Scherenschnittmuseum. The café has a small lunch menu and all rooms are accessible without steps. You can read all about the "Travel for All" certification here.

If you are in Vreden, you should definitely plan a trip to the Zwillbrocker Venn. The nature reserve is characterised by wet meadows, moorland and heathland as well as shallow lakes. It is famous for its flamingos, which live here in the northernmost colony in the world! Maybe you'll see one? A walk through the Fens gives you many opportunities to do so. The paths are mostly easy to walk and drive on and have no inclines. The viewing platform is also accessible via a ramp. You can find more information in the "Travel for All" test report . You can learn even more about the flamingos and nature conservation in the barrier-free exhibition at the Biostation. Another way to discover the Zwillbrocker Venn is the Fun2Go tour. You can rent a Fun2Go bike at the Biostation (please note: pre-booking is necessary) and choose one of two bike tours(NaturTour I and NaturTour II) through the Münsterland park landscape, which are charged by "Reisen für Alle".

Detour to Raesfeld Castle

Raesfeld Castle is an absolute highlight that you should not miss. With a height of 52.5 metres, Raesfeld Castle has the highest tower of all Westphalian castles! The castle can only be visited from the outside. The inclusive cultural experience trail around the castle is barrier-free and can be experienced independently. The trail is certified according to "Travel for All". You can find all information on accessibility here.

The Nature Park House right next to Raesfeld Castle is also worth a visit. The modern architecture dominated by wood and glass provides a contrast to the "wild" surroundings. Inside the visitor centre you can learn more about the zoo and the local flora and fauna. The Nature Park House is also certified according to "Travelling for All". You can find more information in the short report.

Around the castle you will find many nice little cafés where you can round off your excursion.

Note: The cafés are only accessible via cobblestones.
