Bentheim Castle on Castles and Burgs Day

Bentheim Castle is not only one of the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Münsterland region, it is also the largest hilltop castle in north-west Germany. It was first mentioned in 1050, and during its long existence it has seen - and survived - many armed battles.

Today it attracts visitors with its blossoming castle park, its exciting medieval architecture and history, and the breathtaking view of the town of Bad Bentheim.

It has been in the possession of the Counts and Princes of Bentheim and Steinfurt for five centuries.
