The former Cistercian monastery of Gravenhorst in Hörstel is an imposing monument in the Westphalian monastic landscape. It was renovated by the district of Steinfurt - with support from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia - as part of the "Regionale 2004 left and right of the Ems" and is now a lively art venue with a historical feel.
The DA, Kunsthaus offers an exciting experiential space for contemporary, cross-disciplinary art to participate in and think about. Changing exhibitions and art projects, light and sound art as well as art and history education - the DA, Kunsthaus is a communicative meeting place for everyone interested in the interplay of history, art and natural space.
Discover history on two wheels! To mark the Palaces and Castles Day, the DA, Gravenhorst Monastery Art Centre and Bentlage Monastery invite you to join them on a cycle tour. A guided tour of the respective historical ensemble awaits you on site.
The tour starts at 10 am at the DA, Kunsthaus. During a half-hour guided tour, you will gain a fascinating insight into the past and present of the former Cistercian monastery.
Afterwards, you can swap a cultural experience for the enjoyment of nature: Under the guidance of a local guide from the ADFC local group in Rheine, you will take the "Leeze" to Bentlage.
An exquisite selection of works of art awaits the group in the Bentlage Monastery Museum, which brings the exciting history of the place to life, from the monastery to the castle and the museum.
After the tour, the Bentlage Monastery Café invites you to take a cosy break before the tour leads back to Hörstel through the picturesque Münsterland at around 3 pm.
