Water, forest and meadows give the Teutoschleife Heiliges Meer its unique character. The starting point of the 9-kilometre-long hiking trail is the Hotel Mutter Bahr in Ibbenbüren-Uffeln. From here, your path first leads you along the Mittelland Canal, where you can watch the hustle and bustle of the large cargo ships.

Then you walk along idyllic forest and sand paths, past fertile fields and a charming avenue of trees to the car park of the former "Forsthaus Am Heiligen Meer" restaurant - the second entry point of the trail. A narrow path then takes you to the LWL Museum of Natural History.

The trail continues to the Heiliges Meer nature reserve, which gives it its name. Its lake landscape surrounded by unspoilt nature attracts visitors from near and far. After you have explored the special flora and fauna, you are greeted by a magnificent heath landscape. Here, huge old trees and the odd sheep await you.

On the way back, which reveals more sinkhole lakes and a refuge, the landscape gradually changes. Through fields and forests and past the balloon launch site, you return to the starting point. Here, the beer garden provides a fitting setting for the end of this hike.
