This body of water connects the Netherlands, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia: the Dreiländersee in Gronau, which is known beyond the borders.
The popularity of the lake is due not only to the excellent water quality, but also to the extensive range of leisure activities on offer: You can play mini-golf, sail, ride, fish, swim or simply relax. An easily accessible path of about 3.3 km leads around the lake. Or you can combine several excursion destinations and hike along the Gildehauser Venn Route. Those who prefer to discover the lake from the water can rent a rowing boat or a pedal boat, for example. In the summer months, the bathing lake with sandy beach offers welcome cooling. There is also plenty to do in terms of gastronomy, for example in the hotel restaurant Seeblick or in the Gasthof Driland.
As you can probably guess, the name of the lake naturally refers to the number three. It is based on the centuries-old name Driland ("dri" = three), which was already recorded on maps around 1865. It referred to the meeting of Westphalia, the former county of Bentheim and the Dutch province of Overijssel.
