Pröbstingsee in Borken

The Pröbstingsee recreation area in Borken has a lot to offer: Among other things, you can climb, hike, swim and cycle here. So there is something for everyone here. Various gastronomic offers take care of your physical well-being.

If you are looking for adrenaline, the climbing forest is ideal for you. If you prefer to stay on the ground, the cycling and hiking trails are the right place for you. For example, you can choose from the planetary path with information boards about the solar system, a three-kilometre-long lake circuit with seating and sunbathing areas, and the 28-hectare forest "Pröbstinger Busch" with many hiking trails. In addition, the Aa cycle path leads through the area. If you want to explore the lake from a different perspective, you should take a look at the boat rental. In addition to the actual Pröbstingsee, there is a smaller bathing lake with a wonderful sandy beach and a lawn for sunbathing and relaxing.

Those interested in culture can again visit the Pröbsting manor house and the St. Ludgerus chapel. There is never a dull moment in the local recreation area!

The lake

The main attraction of the local recreation area is, of course, the man-made Pröbstingsee, which lies in the valley of the Bocholter Aa. The name of the lake is based on the Pröbsting house, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the water. There are four small islands on the lake. While the two islands on the southern shore of the lake can be reached via bridges, the islands on the northern shore may not be entered because they are used as breeding grounds by birds. The reservoir is about 100,000 square metres in size and is perfect for various water sports such as sailing, rowing, paddling, skiffing and fishing. A highlight is the annual dragon boat race that takes place on the lake.

Glamping by the lake

There is a campsite right next to the bathing lake, which opened in 2019. In addition to the classic pitches, there is also accommodation with more comfort: mobile homes and safari tents. This gives you plenty of time to explore the entire recreation area with its diverse offers. There is also suitable accommodation for a holiday with your dog!
