Ramsdorf Castle
In Ramsdorf, the romantic green district of the climatic health resort of Velen, exciting stories await you behind historic walls. As an interactive museum, Ramsdorf Castle is both an exhibit and home to many relics of days gone by.
Of the coming and going of bricks
The medieval castle was built in 1425 on a spacious site enclosed by a strong circular wall and a moat. Only the castle tower still dates from this time, as the rest of the complex was destroyed a short time later by the Münster collegiate feuds.
After the reconstruction, the estate changed owners constantly from the 16th century onwards, who used the building in different ways. Walls were erected and soon torn down again, and numerous finds reveal further rooms, a stair tower and a tiled cellar vault. The rectangular brick building with ashlar elements that exists today was built in 1732.

4 Tips for Ramsdorf Castle
- The other "Living Museums" take you on various discovery tours of their own history: Old forge, Gut Roß, zoo and the Tenk-Dröning and Picker Warnsing farms.
- The green surroundings of Velen are best explored by bike, for example on the relaxing Hohe Mark Nature Park Route or the impressive 100 Castles Route.
- So close to the turnpike, it's also worth visiting our neighbours, the Netherlands.
- The Enning Inn in nearby Borken-Weseke has been around since 1662. But Annette and Ludger Ennig are far from tired of spoiling their guests with fresh regional cuisine.
