Baumberger Sandstone Museum

The Havixbeck Sandstone Museum exhibits tools and implements, typical sandstone products and historical stone sculptures.

Sandstone has shaped the Münsterland like hardly any other building material. Numerous historical buildings, many town houses and wayside shrines still shine in the characteristic colour of sandstone. The fine-grained and soft sandstone from the hills between Havixbeck, Billerbeck and Nottuln is also a perfect working material for sculptors and is not called the "marble of Münsterland" for nothing.

The permanent exhibition in the listed former farmhouse shows the history, processing and working of this typical Münsterland material in all its facets. The focus is not only on sandstone, but also on the life of the stonemasons. Small sandstone works can be purchased in the museum shop.
