Near the centre of Emsdetten you will find four museums in one place. They are located in a central park around the Deitmar farm.
This farm is the only one of the four "original farms" of the former village of Emsdetten that has survived and is thus the "nucleus" of today's town. It was rebuilt to its current form in 1912 and acquired by the town in 1956. Among other things, it houses the Emsdetten Local History Society, the District Local History Society and the village's wedding room.
A kind of museum island has grown up around the main building. Here you can discover the storage museum, the August-Holländer-Museum, the tub-maker museum and a bakehouse. They will tell you more about the exciting history of the city...
...was a residential house in Emsdetten where the tub-maker's craft was once practised. People used the flat baskets woven from willow - the so-called tubs - in agriculture, for example to clean grain. The museum, which opened in 1985, shows the use of the house and illustrates the way of life and work of its inhabitants at that time.
...shows the development of Emsdetten from an agricultural, artisan village of weavers to an industrial town. How did the industrialisation of the textile industry from the middle of the 19th century affect the development of the town and the working and living conditions of the population? This question is vividly answered here using contemporary machines and documents.
...was rebuilt in 1998 according to historical models. Breads and rolls are baked in the house's traditional stone oven on special occasions. Have you also got the urge to bake bread? The event "Bread baking in the bakehouse" can be booked for groups in rustic cosiness via the Emsdetten Tourist Office.
...is an old granary from the 17th century and Emsdetten's oldest standing building! The granary museum, which opened in 2001, presents around 150 old farming and self-sufficiency tools. In those days, they were used to carry out a wide variety of work - from clearing the land to processing milk.
