A museum of a special kind. If you love horses or want to learn more about these animals, a visit to the Westphalian Horse Museum is an absolute must. Thanks to its unusual concept and location in the middle of Münster's Allwetterzoo , it offers a wealth of information and attractions about horses. On 1,000 square metres of exhibition space, the museum is dedicated to the natural and cultural history of the horse in Westphalia in an informative and entertaining way.
Numerous hands-on and media stations as well as exciting original objects provide insights into the centuries-long relationship between horse and man. Visitors also meet the imposing "Polydor", one of the most successful breeding stallions of all time, learn exciting details about the life of a pit horse and experience the world from the point of view of the noble animals.
The riding simulators are particularly popular with children, where they can try out the three gaits of walk, trot and gallop. The interactive carriage simulator is also a real crowd-puller: high on the carriage stand of a historic "wagonette", visitors can choose between a leisurely carriage ride across meadows and bridges or a sporty ride through an obstacle course.
In addition to the exciting permanent exhibition, the Westphalian Horse Museum regularly presents special exhibitions on various topics. The focus is - of course - the horse, but there are also exhibitions on other animals. Particularly popular is the renowned photo exhibition "Wildlife Photographer of the Year", which the Horse Museum has been showing every winter since 2012.
The "Hippomaxx" arena is located right next to the museum building. Here you can experience horses up close and in action: Shows and demonstrations on various horse breeds and riding styles take place regularly in the riding arena. For the youngest horse fans, there is the "Get up close to the horse!" campaign, where children can gain their first experience with a horse.
There are even more "real" horses in the adjacent children's and horse park. Various breeds of horses live in the spacious horse enclosure, just waiting to be stroked by guests young and old.

In the 19th century, names such as Charles Darwin, Alfred Wallace and Alexander von Humboldt characterise the world of natural sciences. At the same time, volunteer researchers from Münster set out to explore the region's nature and secure objects and research findings - the foundation stones of today's natural science collections for Westphalia-Lippe with a total of over 2.3 million collection objects.
